Revolution takes Double Gold at California State Fair!

Revolution Wines is pleased to announce that our 2008 St Rey Single Quinta Ruby Port was awarded double gold (98 points), at the 2010 California State Fair wine competition. How big is that?
  • Of over 3500 wines, only 35 received 98 points or higher.
  • St Rey (by RevolutionWines) received the highest score of any port-style wine entered this year.

The St Rey Single Quinta Ruby Port is a genuine expression of the qualities of Sacramento as it was made by fifth-generation Sacramentan and winemaker, Craig Haarmeyer. The grapes in this wine are grown just 15 miles from the winery and downtown Sacramento.

The six port grapes varieties (Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cao, Souzao, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa and Alvarelho) were harvested in late September, 2008 at an average of 24.5 brix, (relatively low sugars by todays standards) and were processed using the most gentle old-world port-making methods. The fortification occurred over the course of three days (sometimes during the middle of the night) which gives St Rey Port a graceful balance of fruit and sweetness, while keeping the alcohol notes very gentle.

St. Rey Wines is inspired by winemaker Craig Haarmeyer’s love for winemaking and especially his passion for Port style wines. St Rey is an homage to the various ascts of Craig’s family heritage and desire to produce something special from locally grown grapes. His mother, Celeste (Jimenez), is an inspiration and a Porto lover as well, who represents a multi-generation presence in Sacramento. His wife Kelly’s family, Souza, too, is from the Sacramento area. The grapes are grown by Ron Silva, in vineyards that lay less than a kilometer away from Craig’s cousins, Mike and Jane Kennefick and their ranch in southern Sacramento County near the town of Galt. This connection to family, to the land and the love of hand-made wines is expressed in every bottle of St. Rey wine.

Thanks to all who have supported our efforts and please share with us the joy we have found in making something so rewarding to enjoy.

A nossa!

Okay. I'll be the first to post.

YAY! for us!

Crush 2009 was a landmark for us. We made 34 wines in all and all of the wines are either in bottle, tasting great and winning bronze medals or they are in barrel tasting great and showing great potential. Our 2009 Aparicio Zinfandel is wonderful.....dry, good tannin structure, great nose with anise and pepper notes......the Syrahs, all 4 of them have great color and body......the Merlot is delicate, complex and balanced and the Cab is solid with spicy and minty hints of complex fruit.......and let's not forget the port with all of it's earthyness and deep dried fruit aromas and flavors.....

More awards next year!

Cheers!

-Craig
