Fall is in the air, which means that harvest is on our minds. So, we have been visiting the vineyards where we are sourcing our grapes from for crush 2009 and yesterday we headed up to Aparicio Vineyards. The winemakers, the owners and their children and Renzo and Loraine all drove to Sutter Creek to pay Joe Aparicio a visit and check the progress of this years' crop.
This vineyard has been in Joe's family for generations. His grand father and father both tended the vines and Joe was actually born on the property. He has been tending the vines, too, for decades and he does all of the pruning himself. His tireless work, curiosity for things that grow, knowledge of local history and knack for things mechanical are a rare and wonderful combination that manifests itself in the vineyard. It is an honor to make wine from the fruits of his labor and we are very excited about it.
In a few weeks we expect to receive about 4 tons of Zinfandel, so stop on by winery to taste the grapes. Zin tastes better than any table grape I have ever eaten......Cheer!
